This post might be different from the theme of my blog, I mean it is not related to programming and java but I thought of sharing it with you and you may share your opinions about it, precisely, "what do you think about truth?" For me, truth is .....
I don’t know if I am true or wrong, but to me, truth is something exists by nature in our life or our world that is not falsifiable and not fallible. Truth is not falsifiable in the sense that no one can deny it or hide it or even change it. Truth is not fallible in the sense that it cannot be wrong by itself. For example, death is the truth in our life that everyone is going to die and no one is eternal, and this also applies to animals and any creatures on the earth. Also there are examples of truth that appear in our world like the sun rises from the east and sets in the west, and we will never wake up in the morning to see the sun is rising from the west! Such truth we cannot falsify it and say the sun is rising from the west and also the sun will never rise from the west by itself. This is one lens to truth that tells it is a complete truth by all means.
Another lens to truth that compares it with a lie, this kind of truth sometimes is not complete but it is not a lie, and it is still truth. For example, if would tell someone of my family about a story (hard one) happened to me, I may hide some parts of the story and only tell the significant parts for not letting them worry much about me, in this situation I consider myself telling the truth but technically, it is a half truth and peaceful one. Another example, is that when a patient visits a doctor and the doctor diagnosed that she/he has a severe physical sickness and the doctor wouldn’t tell the patient directly about the truth of her/his sickness for not causing a psychological side effect on the patient which might eliminate the patient’s resistance to the sickness. This is still truth but it is told gradually and less harmful. This kind of truth usually exists in our social life.
In science, which is another lens, a different kind of truth which can be fallible because it depends on the human observations that definitely differ from person to person. The truth of factual statements, that constitute theories that constitute the scientific knowledge, could be falsified because they are established by the observational evidence and we are human beings and possibly do mistakes by mistake even if we have knowledge. Because observations differ from person to person, based on the presupposed knowledge and eye observation, so there always be something falsifiable in the truth and science continues over and over to work on these falsifications and gain better factual observational statements. This is the nature of science that knowledge grow up by time and study endeavours continue finding truth in scientific theories.
Another lens to truth, artistic one, that we usually see movies are based on true stories. Such movies convey the truth in the true story but not a whole truth and adding some fake or imaginary stories based on the movie director vision to have her/his touch on the final composition of the movie. That is a half truth mixed with fantasy but it is still considered as truth.
The straightforward lens to truth is to tell someone the truth as it is no matter how hard it is, so in this case, this is a complete truth but harmful if it has inclusively something hard to be told.
So truth always exists in our life, world, social interactions, field of study, and the movies we watch. Truth can be taken for understanding phenomena, relieving pain, harming people, attracting others, and dealing with our world. Truth can be complete, a half, mixed with a lie, or mixed with fantasy but it is truth! That is what I experienced about truth in my life and this might not be the truth for others!
So what does truth mean to you? :)
